PRESS RELEASE
WPSL EXPANSION CONTINUES IN THE CONSTITUTION STATE WITH INTER CONNECTICUT FC JOINING FOR 2026
OKLAHOMA CITY (1/22/2026) — The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced further expansion in Connecticut with the addition of Inter Connecticut FC for the 2026 WPSL season. Today’s announcement makes Inter Connecticut FC the second Connecticut-based club to join the league for 2026, and the fourth in the past two seasons joining CT Rush, Vale SC, and 2025 WPSL National Champions, Sporting CT.
“The WPSL helps strengthen our mission of providing the best possible environment for our players to become elite individuals with soccer being the vehicle for long-term success on and off the field,” Marty Walker, Inter Connecticut FC technical director, said. “It brings our players one step closer to the professional game and a potential career in the sport they love.”
The Norwalk-based club was established as a youth program in 2008 as Everton America, quickly developing a strong reputation regionally and nationally, particularly for its girl’s teams. In 2019 the club rebranded to become Inter Connecticut FC. The 2025 WPSL season is the club’s first to feature a women’s team.
“Adding senior women’s football to our program will serve as an extra incentive for our younger players to pursue their goals in the game,” Walker said. “We hope that our senior team will inspire the next generation of footballers in the area and drive an even greater love for the game than that which already exists.”
As part of its mission to create an environment that instills success on and off the field, Inter Connecticut FC partners with Football4All, a soccer-based charity that ensures finances are not a barrier enjoying the game. Over the years the two organizations have helped almost 80 players with fees, uniform needs, and travel expenses.
Ashley Cabral will serve as head coach for Inter Connecticut FC in its debut season. She additionally serves as Director of Coaching for High School and Regional girl’s programs for the club.
“With the rapid growth of the adult game in the U.S., and the exciting opportunities for young female players to pursue professional pathways, I believe the WPSL will excite and motivate the young girls that currently play for Inter CT FC,” Cabral said. “We will make sure to put our best foot forward with a brand of competitive soccer that the league will be proud of.”
Conference and division alignment will be announced at the WPSL Annual General Meeting January 30-31. The 28th WPSL season kicks off in mid-May, culminating with the WPSL Championships in July. The 2026 WPSL schedule will be announced in March.
