WPSL Division II was first introduced in 2021 and has grown over 32 percent in five years. Fifteen WPSL teams will field Division II sides for the 2026 season, including the 2025 National Champions, Sporting CT.The full WPSL Division II footprint spans 45 cities in 19 states from New England to California and Minnesota to Florida. Over 50 WPSL Division II teams will compete in the 2026 season.
The Women’s Premier Soccer League has cemented itself as a historic symbol in the women’s games. National icons and some of the most recognizable talents like Brandi Chastain, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, and Catarina Macario have competed on the WPSL field.

The structure for WPSL Division II is geared toward an introduction to the operational standards and game play for the high-level competition seen in WPSL’s top-flight platform. WPSL Division II is a great opportunity for prospective teams to explore league operations through grassroots competition and affordable financials all while matching the quality of WPSL standards.
While the WPSL holds a full postseason with playoffs, WPSL Division II does not include playoffs in its season therefore its regular season continues three weeks after WPSL’s concludes – making the complete Division II season from May 5 – July 31.
WPSL Division II resembles the standards of match day rosters of the WPSL in all areas: roster size (14-20), substitutions (unlimited), and over-age (no restrictions).
While WPSL rosters feature predominantly more collegiate and post-collegiate (77%) athletes compared to its prep players (23%), WPSL Division II are structured on a more balanced scale between the two:
43% of WPSL Division II roster feature prep players and 57% collegiate/post collegiate athletes
The only two requirements from WPSL operational standards that WPSL Division II teams must adhere to are having a medical physician and/or physical trainer on site for game days. While dressing rooms, electronic scoreboards, and sound systems are required in WPSL, these elements are recommended in WPSL Division II. Ball kids are optional.WPSL Division II must assign three referees for $305 per game compared to WPSL’s four referees at $360 per game.
