CALIFORNIA STORM TOPS EL PASO TO ADVANCE TO NEXT ROUND

 

California Storm are one step closer to a record sixth WPSL championship with a 7-0 win over El Paso Surf to advance to the West Region Playoffs Final tomorrow.

 

Lauren Kenny scored a hat trick, and Kennedy Mayo, Ellie Quinn, Susie Long and Madison Ayson added goals in the win. 

 

The Desert Conference representatives looked like they were going to make a game of it early before Kenny opened scoring for Storm half an hour in. Storm took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Quinn added a second in the 33rd minute. 

 

Ayson made it 3-0 just after the start of the second half, before the flood gates opened with Kenny’s second goal in the 65^th minute, followed by her third from the penalty spot two minutes later. Mayo and Long closed out the scoring.

With the win, California Storm moves to 1-0-0 in the postseason and 8-0-1 overall. 

 

California Storm advance to the West Region Playoffs Final at Linfield Christian School in Temecula, Calif. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (PDT).
