READING UNITED A.C. TAKES COMMONWEALTH DIVISION TITLE

The third season was a charm for Reading United A.C. After back-to-back second-place Commonwealth Division finishes Reading got over that last hurdle to win its first division title.

“Winning our division for the first time is something we’re very proud to have accomplished. For the club, it signifies that their decision three years ago to provide this amazing opportunity to our local women’s players was a great decision,” Tom Gosselin, Reading United A.C. head coach, said.

Reading went undefeated for the first time in club history, going 7-3-0 in an incredibly competitive Commonwealth Division race that saw four of the seven teams in the conference earn at least five wins in the ten-match schedule.

“As always, our division is challenging. There are so many great teams and coaches. To be able to go undefeated throughout was a monumental task we are proud to have completed,” Gosselin said.

Reading opened the season picking up six quick points with wins over Hershey FC to open the season and Keystone FC before a Matchweek Four draw with PA Classics. After a pair of back-to-back draws with PA Classics for a second time, and HEX FC Tempest, two shutout wins to close out the season, capped by a 6-0 road win over Hershey FC.

Reading led the division with 31 goals over 10 games. Haley Gschrey led the side with seven goals in six appearances, followed by Ashley Lavrich (Monmouth University 2024- ) with five and Anna Buckwalter (Binghamton University (2024- ) Loren Gehret (Monmouth University 2023- ), and Rebecca Kotula tallied four goals each.

At the defensive side, Reading was one of two teams allowing a division-low nine goals. Sarah Gatz (Indiana University of Pennsylvania 2024- ) started every match for Reading, posting a .9 goal against average, keeping four clean sheets.

“The players play for the badge. This team is their team. The players have ownership in the team and together they built a strong, sustainable and entertaining product,” Gosselin said. The success on the field is all theirs. When you combine talent with women of outstanding character it is hard to defeat.”
