The Metropolitan Conference takes center stage tonight when STA (1-0-0) hosts conference newcomer, Clarkstown Soccer Club (1-0-0), in the National Soccer Network National Matchup of the Week.

Both clubs enter Sunday’s match coming off a sort turn around: STA kicked off its season Friday with a 2-1 road win over Force FC New York. Also fresh off a win, Clarkston topped SUSA FC on the road 2-0 Saturday night.

This is the first contest between the neighboring clubs in Metropolitan Conference play. Since joining the league in 2022, Clarkstown competed in the Northeastern Conference, winning conference titles in 2023 and 2024.

“We are aware of Clarkstown’s decorated history, and congratulate them on its previous conference championships, STA head coach, Katie Quinlan, said. “This season marks a new chapter for them, and we’re looking forward to the added competitiveness they bring to the Metropolitan Conference.”

STA enters Sunday’s match fresh off 2-1 road win to open its 2025 schedule. Jill Roseneld (University of Rhode Island) and Abigail Pierson (UNC Wilmington) scored goals in the win. Juliana Dolinski (Kent State University) provided assists for both goals in a performance.

“STA has a very good side,” Clarkstown head coach, Danny Samimi said. “We are excited to be able to compete against them this year. It will be a challenge playing against all new teams in the conference. We have 30 Division I players on the roster, so we are super excited about them all playing with us this season.”

Clarkston, ranked No. 5 in the East Region, travels for the second consecutive time, having played less than 24 hours earlier in Queens, N.Y. Sophia Bradley (University of Virginia) scored unassisted, and Liv Johnson (University of Buffalo) scored made it 2-0 off a Marissa Graziano (Iona University) assist. Kayla Bower (St. Johns University) earned the clean sheet in goal for Clarkstown.

STA finished the 2024 season 6-1-1, two points from Metropolitan Conference winners, SUSA FC, in third place in the conference standings on goal differential behind Downtown United Soccer Club, which played to an identical record. Jaiden Schultz led the club in scoring in 2024 with three goals, followed by Sydney Masur, Marisa Snee, Jill Rosenfeld, and Sarah Oswald with two goals each. Masur, and defender Jamie Irwin, both standouts in the 2024 WPSL season, signed professional contracts this winter. Masur for Danish side Fortuna Hjørring and Irwin with Australian side Bundoora United FC.

Clarkston finished 2024 10-0-1, with its only loss coming in the WPSL Championships semifinal to national champions, California Storm. The club went a perfect 8-0-0 in Northeastern Conference play, topping Niagara 1812 in the East Region Playoff semifinal and Reading United F.C. in the East Region final to advance to the WPSL National Championships in Stillwater, Okla. Golden Boot candidate Kelly Brady led the club with 12 goals, followed by Ava Giudice with five and Sophia Bradley with three.
