OKLAHOMA CITY (3/5/2025) - The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today the returning teams for the 2025 season of its second tier, now known as WPSL Division II. Thirteen teams from nine states in the midwest, southwest, and west coast will compete alongside an expected 30 new expansion clubs for the relaunch of the league’s second tier this summer.
First division mainstays San Francisco Nighthawks and Oklahoma City FC will field reserve sides in Division II for another season while Union KC returns with two separate reserve squads along with its first-division side.
Other returning sides include Fever United, FIERCE United, and Houston Futsal SC out of Texas; Nebraska Fierce and Albuquerque Alliance from Nebraska and New Mexico; River City FC in Missouri; Sioux City Sol in Iowa; MCSC Jaguars and Northern Arizona Altitude out of California and Arizona; and Kansas Rush Wichita, entering its third season.
“The past two summers have seen our club experience a tremendous amount of success. We pride ourselves in our roster competition, as the vast majority of our players are current and former youth players,” Adam Hunter, Kansas Rush Wichita technical director, said. The WPSL Division II affords us a premier competition platform to assist in achieving our goals.”
Austin-based FIERCE United sees the league's second tier as essential for preparing players for the next level, while helping alumnae stay sharp against elite opposition during the summer.
"With professional staff, referees, and trainers, the WPSL provides a college-like environment that supports out players growth and aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering female athletes, fostering their growth on and off the pitch," Nick Marquez, FIERCE United executive director, said.
The WPSL Division II season runs May 5 through July 31 and the official 2025 schedule will be unveiled in early April.

About the WPSL Division II
Founded in 2021 as WPSL U21, the rebranded WPSL Division II structure is geared towards an introduction into the WPSL's competition and standards, while creating a true development pathway to the league's upper tier of competition. Several successful first division teams initially competed in the league's second-tier, while others use the platform to foster up-and-coming talent for higher-level first teams. WPSL Division II modified operations and performance standards are an ideal entry point for clubs looking to test the waters of regional competition beyond that of the regional youth leagues.
