PROMINENT FORT WORTH CLUB'S WOMEN'S SIDE TO DEBUT IN 2025 WPSL SEASON
OKLAHOMA CITY (2/5/2025) — The Women's Premier Soccer League announced today the latest addition to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex market as it welcomes Fort Worth Vaqueras FC to the 2025 WPSL season. As the women’s arm of Fort Worth Vaqueros FC, today's announcement furthers the club’s vision of growing the women’s game in Fort Worth by creating more opportunities for the region's aspiring female soccer players.
“We celebrate the expansion of the Fort Worth Vaqueros brand with the Fort Worth Vaqueras, as both will offer a pathway to a higher level playing experience for our youth players, as they develop through our youth club and our academy in the years to come,” Daniel Rincon, Fort Worth Vaqueros Youth Club executive director, said.
The club is owned by Michael Hitchcock, who brings more than a quarter century experience in the industry, including 12 years in Major League Soccer at four clubs including vice president of sales for LA Galaxy and general manager for FC Dallas.
"As part of our expanded commitment to growing the game, we're excited to add a women's semi-pro team called the Fort Worth Vaqueras to the Vaqueros family," Hitchcock said. "The Vaqueras will provide opportunity for local women's players to play the best players and teams in the region as they pursue their soccer dreams while adding more positive role models to inspire the next generation of players."
With the committed mission of empowering athletes in Fort Worth and surrounding communities, Vaqueras FC creates a competitive pathway to professional soccer and elevates local talent while growing the game to make a lasting impact both on and off the field. Metroplex native, Anthony Harris, who has helped guide the club since 2020, will lead Vaqueras FC into this new era as general manager.
“I can’t wait to kick off the 2025 season in the WPSL, and provide this great city I call home another opportunity to experience high-level soccer right here in Cowtown,” Harris said. “Having two young girls myself, we are playing a huge role in the development and the growth of this sport in this city and beyond!”
Though its women will debut this summer, Vaqueros FC has long established itself in Fort Worth’s soccer landscape for over a decade. The club now features a full youth club and non-profit academy along with its women's and men's pre-professional programs.
“The great sport of soccer will be responsible for bringing the Fort Worth Community and its surrounding communities together, as they enjoy watching our new women's soccer team playing this beautiful sport," Rincon said.
Fort Worth Vaqueras FC join SouthStar FC and FC Dallas as teams from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex market competing in the seven-team Lone Star Conference this season. Teams from Austin, Houston and San Antonio round out the conference. The league will unveil the official 2025 schedule in mid-March.
