Women’s Premier Soccer League alumna, Kate Faasse, was named a finalist for the 2024 Missouri Athletic (MAC) Club Hermann Trophy on Wednesday—the most prestigious individual honor in college soccer.
Faasse, a junior at the 2024 NCAA College Cup champions University of North Carolina, led all Division I scorers with 20 goals enroute to the Tar Heels’ 23rd National Championship.
Faasse played for the reigning Desert Conference champions, SC del Sol, in her hometown Phoenix, Ariz., during the 2024 WPSL season.
Maggie Graham (Duke University) and Caiya Hanks (Wake Forest) are the other MAC Hermann Trophy finalists announced by United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club on Wednesday.
WPSL legends Catarina Macario (San Diego SeaLions 2018, 2019) and Jaelin Howell ( Motor City FC 2020, 2021) were both double winners of college soccer’s most coveted prize.
It took Faasse the first five games of the 2024 season to equal the four goals she tallied in her prior two seasons at Chapel Hill. Faasse finished with an incredible five braces in her run to the Division I women’s scoring title, including both goals in the Tar Heels’ 2-0 win over Virginia Tech to open the ACC Tournament, and both goals in UNC’s 3-2 loss to Florida State in the ACC Tournament final.
In the NCAA Tournament, Faasse bagged her second brace in a row in the Tar Heels’ 8-0 dismantling of USC Upstate in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, picked up a quarterfinal goal in UNC’s 2-1 over Penn State, and scored her 20th goal on the season in the Tar Heels’ 3-0 win over archrival Duke in the semifinals. Faasse started and played the entire match for the Tar Heels in the final versus Wake Forest and was credited with one shot on goal.
Graham, a graduate student from Atlanta, Ga., scored 14 goals and added five assists from the midfield for the Blue Devils, which fell to Faasse and North Carolina in the 3-0 in the NCAA College Cup semifinal.
Hanks, a junior from Kailua-Konah, Hawaii, finished Wake Forest’s first-ever run to the College Cup final with 11 goals and 12 assists on the season.
The 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy winner will be announced at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 3.
