WEEK 8 ACTION FROM LONE STAR CONFERENCE

 

Week 8 in the Lone Star Conference saw five matchups and Austin Rise FC clinch the regular season title. 

 

FUTBOLERA SELECT 1 - 3 HOUSTON ACES 

Dulles High School Stadium, Sugar Land, Texas

Wednesday, June 26 


The Houston Aces defeated Futbolera Select 3-1 to kick off Week 8 play in the Lone Star Conference. 


Houston started out strong in the 15’ minute when Madison Bowers found the back of the net. 


Futbolera tied it up four minutes later in the 19’ minute thanks to Liliane Clase Baez (Texas Southern University). 


The Aces regained the lead in the 63’ minute with Jessica Molina’s (Rice University) goal. 


Five minutes later, in the 68’ minute, Shalom Prince made the score 3-1 with her goal. 


The win put the Houston Aces at 4-2-2, while Futbolera Select fell to 1-3-2. 


 

SAN ANTONIO RUNNERS 0 - 6 AUSTIN RISE FC 

Cibolo Multi-Event Center, Cibolo, Texas

Wednesday, June 26


Austin Rise FC defeated the San Antonio Runners in its 6-0 victory and secured an important three points in the race for the top spot in the conference. 


Austin started off the scoring early with the first goal in the 7’ minute from Hailey Sapinoro (University of South Carolina - Upstate), assisted by Alyssa Aguilar. 


Brigid McElderry (Samford University) quickly made it 2-0 for the Rise in the 8’ minute, assisted by Sara Asbeck. 


Austin went up 3-0 in the 11’ minute with Lily Erb’s (Texas State University) goal. 


Then, in the 14’ minute Grace Starr (Carnegie Mellon University) found the back of the net. 


The Rise scored again in the 29’ minute with Asbeck getting a goal to add to her earlier assist. 


The sixth and final goal came in the 30’ minute with Alexis Lawerence’s shot, assisted by Audrey Castaneda. 

The win put Austin Rise FC at 5-2-1, while the San Antonio Runners fell to 0-0-9. 


 

CLASSICS ELITE SA 2 - 2 SOUTHSTAR FC     

St. Mary’s Hall Sports Field, San Antonio, Texas 

Friday, June 28 


Classics Elite SA and SouthStar FC drew 2-2 in Classics’ last match of the regular season. 


Classics Elite scored first in the 40’ minute with Bianca Ruiz’s goal. 


SouthStar leveled the score at 1-1 in the 75’ minute with Lexi Gonzales’ (Tarleton State University) goal. 


Classics regained the lead in the 80’ minute thanks to Taylor Jernigan (Texas A&M University), the South Region Player of the Week from Week 3. 


Two minutes later, in the 82’ minute, Kaitlyn Niemeyer (Lamar University) tied it up once again for SouthStar. 


The draw sees Classics Elite SA finish at 5-4-1 for the season, while SouthStar FC sits at 2-3-2. 


 

AUSTIN RISE FC 3 - 1 FUTBOLERA SELECT 

House Park, Austin, Texas

Saturday, June 29 


Austin Rise FC picked up another crucial win in its 3-1 victory over Futbolera Select. 


Austin scored first in the 25’ minute from Sapinoro’s outside-the-box shot, her second goal of the week, assisted by Skylar Gardner. 


Futbolera leveled the score at 1-1 in the 48’ minute on a penalty, scored by Alexa Huerta (Houston Christian University). 


The Rise regained the lead in the 58’ minute when Vanessa Adams found the back of the net, assisted by Erb. 


Austin’s third goal came in the 87’ minute thanks to Annika Fredell, assisted by McElderry. 


The win puts Austin Rise FC at 6-2-1, while Futbolera Select falls to 1-3-3. 


 

SOUTHSTAR FC 2 - 0 HOUSTON ACES 

North Texas Soccer Stadium, Denton, Texas

Sunday, June 30


SouthStar FC defeated the Houston Aces 2-0 to spoil the Aces chances at winning the conference. 


SouthStar’s first goal was scored in the 32’ minute by Samya Mitchell. 


Mitchell then scored again in the 53’ minute, making it 2-0 for the home side. 


The win sees SouthStar FC finish at 3-3-2 on the season, while the Houston Aces fall to 4-2-3. 


 

STANDINGS 

Austin Rise FC is in first place with 20 points, and with no team being able to catch them, finish atop the Lone Star Conference with Week 9 still left to play. In second is Classics Elite SA with 19 points. The Houston Aces sit in third with 14, SouthStar FC in fourth with 12, and Futbolera Select at fifth with 6. The San Antonio Runners remain in last. 

 

WEEK 9 FIXTURES 

The Houston Aces host Austin Rise FC on Saturday and the San Antonio Runners face off against Futbolera Select in the final two matches of the regular season in the Lone Star Conference.
