THE WPSL LAUNCHES INITIATIVE THAT WILL ASSIST
LOCAL, STATE, AND REGIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER LEAGUES

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 2, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League has announced that it has partnered with the Michigan Super League in an effort to support developing women’s soccer leagues that have previously been underrepresented. With the announcement, the league confirms the Michigan Super League will participate under the WPSL umbrella with the support of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

“Our mission of advancing women’s soccer goes beyond the limits of the WPSL platform,” Sean Jones, WPSL president, said.

“This is a great opportunity to launch an initiative that offers much needed support to local, state, and regional soccer leagues that may not have had the assistance or guidance to progress forward. This is the gap that we will bridge to increase opportunities for players across the country.”

Five teams from Michigan and Canada have been confirmed to compete in the Michigan Super League 2024 season – Corktown WFC (Detroit, MI), Caboto SC (Windsor, ON, Canada), Windsor Kickers (Windsor, ON, Canada), Midland SC (Midland, MI), and Thundercats SC (Fair Haven, MI).

“Through this partnership with the WPSL, the Michigan Super League will be able to strengthen and grow even more with the support and guidance of the strongest women’s league in the country,” Aaron Roy, Michigan Super League commissioner, said.

“In addition, it will create a seamless path for Metro Detroit area clubs who have their sights set on eventually moving on to the national league stage of the WPSL.”

The season will kick off in May with each team playing a balanced eight-game schedule. The regular season standings positions will rank the teams as 1-5 seeds for the Michigan Super League Cup on July 25-28. The No. 1 seed will earn a postseason bye as the fourth and fifth seeds face another and the second and third seeds meet.
