SALT LAKE CITY (March 24, 2023) - The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced further growth in the Salt Lake City metro with its latest addition to its 2023 expansion class. With the announcement, the league confirms Griffins FC will compete in the Wasatch Division of the Mountain Conference against four other Utah-based teams.

By joining the WPSL, Griffins FC continues to pursue its goal of uniting female players from across the state of Utah who aspire to compete at a high level. Additionally, the club will serve as a place for its Salt Lake Academy alumnae to compete during offseason breaks away from their respective collegiate programs.

For the 2023 season, Sly Yeates has been named the club’s head coach. Yeates currently serves as the Girls Director at Salt Lake Academy high school and holds a USSF B and U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching licenses.

Griffins FC will open the season on the road against the Utah Red Devils on May 12 and will hold its first home match on May 19 against La Roca FC, who enter its second WPSL season. The winner of the Wasatch Division will travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies Division’s top finisher in the Mountain Conference Championship with the winner advancing to the Central Region Playoffs.
