KINGSTON, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2023) - The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today that the Kingston Capitals will compete in 2023 after playing in WPSL U21 last season.

“We firmly believe that the Kingston Capitals will go a long way in contributing towards the growth of women’s soccer in our region [by] providing college players a pathway to higher achievements,” Nick Malvai, Kingston Capitals president, said when asked on the club’s decision to join the WPSL.

Founded in 2022 by the Kingston Area Soccer League (KASL), the Kingston Capitals were created to provide a high-level competitive soccer experience for players in the Hudson Valley and beyond. The club encompasses players from a vast region and collectively presents a diverse, inclusive community.

According to Malvai, the organization views itself as a “community benefit that requires a communal effort to succeed” and lives by the well-known African proverb, “it takes a whole village to raise a child.”

For the 2023 season, the club has appointed Eileen Cancro as its head coach who brings in over 26 years of experience coaching at the travel, premier, high school, and collegiate levels and holds several coaching licenses and diplomas.

“Eileen has consistently created a winning culture throughout her career,” Malvai said. “She will provide great leadership to the women in our program, and we are privileged to welcome her to the team.”

Earlier this month, the league released its official alignment for the 2023 season that places the Capitals in the Northeastern Conference of the East Region – joining fellow 2023 Expansion, Force FC New York.
