FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ST. LOUIS (Feb. 13, 2023) - The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today that Saint Louis Scott Gallagher will officially compete this summer as the league gears up for its 25th season.
“Saint Louis Scott Gallagher is honored to be a part of the WPSL…Our entire staff is impressed with the organization's high level of play and professionalism,” Scott McDoniel, SLSG girl program director, said. “To be able to offer WPSL programming to our growing pool of college players, all of whom are alumnae, is an exciting opportunity due to the outstanding competition and high standards that the league expects of its members.”
After the 2008 merger between St. Louis Soccer Club, Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, and Metro United, Saint Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) was formed as a unified organization that wanted to establish the benchmark as the “best club in the country.” For the last fifteen years, the player-development model that SLSG implements has set the standard in St. Louis and the metropolitan area. The club plans to utilize the WPSL platform to carry on this mission at a greater scale and McDoniel sees this as “a bridge from college to the professional ranks for SLSG U23 players.”
“Our President, Brad Davis, is totally behind this project and knows how important it is for the Girls Program,” McDoniel added. “Having the club completely behind this team is incredibly special and motivating for our staff. We are really looking forward to putting a great group on the field for our city.”
For its inaugural season, SLSG will compete in the Heartland Conference of the Central Region alongside other 2023 expansions from Kansas City and St. Louis. The Heartland Conference will feature mostly 2023 expansion teams in their first season with the addition of KC Courage's WPSL return. The club has also confirmed it plans to play its home matches at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
Coaching announcements and league scheduling will be unveiled at a later date.
