FC MONMOUTH JOINS WPSL AS FIRST 2025 EXPANSION CLUB

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 18, 2024) –  The Women’s Premier Soccer League announces the first expansion club for the 2025 season as it welcomes FC Monmouth for the 27th season of WPSL play. With the announcement, FC Monmouth launches women’s side to elevate club on national stage following the success of its youth and men’s teams.

“Inclusion in the WPSL will impact our club immensely,” James Davis, FC Monmouth general manager, said.

“It is an incredible opportunity to now officially compete against quality clubs nationally and put Monmouth County on the map for women’s soccer. Expansion in the WPSL gives our players further ambition to continue striving for success and hopefully win championships.”

After years of being the community’s team with Sunday morning pick-up games, FC Monmouth officially organized in 2017 and launched youth and men’s teams the following year. In 2024, the club looked to bridge the gap for the female players in Monmouth County by creating more advancement and playing opportunities. The team played an exhibition schedule against current WPSL clubs and regional clubs from other leagues – collecting a 5-0-1 record over six matches.

Now heading into 2025, FC Monmouth, with participation in the WPSL, will continue to provide extended opportunities for these athletes in the area who strive to compete at the highest level of amateur women’s soccer.

“Inclusion in the WPSL aligns with our mission of growing the women’s game in Monmouth County,” Davis said. “There are tens of thousands of girls in Monmouth County participating in recreation, travel, and academy level soccer who now have local role models playing the game at the highest level of amateur soccer.”

In partnership with Just Sports Training, a multi-sport training program located in Monmouth County that is designed for children aged 3-to-18 years old, FC Monmouth has hosted free summer and winter camps, YMCA camps, and Boy & Girls Club camps in Red Bank at the club’s home venue, Count Basie Park.

FC Monmouth’s inaugural WPSL season will be led by New Jersey natives, Head Coach Lou Santa Cruz, and A
ssistant Coach Bryan Finley. Along with FC Monmouth coaching duties, both coaches hold technical positions for the elite youth club, PDA Shore.

The WPSL will announce the complete 2025 schedule in early spring. The season is set to kicks off in May culminating with the WPSL Championships in late July.
