SEATTLE REIGN FC BRIDGES GAP FROM ACADEMY TO FIRST TEAM
AS SEATTLE REIGN FC II GEARS UP FOR 2024 WPSL SEASON
SEATTLE (March 20, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League confirmed today that Seattle Reign FC has entered Seattle Reign FC II into the WPSL and will compete this summer in the Northwest Conference in the league’s West Region. With the announcement, the Reign moves ahead with the creation of its complete grassroots-to-pros pathway.
“By entering Seattle Reign FC II into the WPSL, Seattle Reign FC is taking another step to bridge gaps in our pathway by providing our top academy players and alumnae with the opportunity to prepare for their collegiate seasons,” Amy Griffin, Seattle Reign Academy executive director, said.
“This provides a continuation of their development within our club model and gives them the opportunity to be evaluated for the first team.”
Seattle Reign Academy provides a female-centered training and playing environment designed to inspire and empower the next generation of female footballers. Joining the WPSL aligns with the Reign’s mission of creating a complete pathway from the grassroots to the professional level. The club’s ultimate goal is to have an entire ecosystem working together to support and challenge phenomenal players, promising leaders, and women with a passion for the game.
“Competing in the WPSL also allows us to invite players who have the potential to be selected by Seattle Reign FC in the future,” Griffin said.
“Starting with our Reign Drops (grassroots), Legacy group (developmental teams), U13-19 Seattle Reign Academy (WPL & Girls Academy), and now, Seattle Reign FC II, with intention, we are continuing to create a progressive pathway within the club.”
The Reign’s first team already holds a WPSL connection with players like Alana Cook (MVLA Wolves, 2017) and Bethany Balcer (Sounders Women, 2018) who competed in the league before starting their professional careers in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Seattle Reign FC II has named Reilee DuPratt as its head coach for the 2024 WPSL season. DuPratt has spent the last three years leading Ohio Dominican University’s women’s soccer program as head coach after serving as an assistant with Cleveland State University and is currently completing her USSF A license. The Ohio native captained Edinboro University to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 before graduating in 2016. DuPratt also holds experience at the youth level where she worked with Cleveland Force SC and the Ohio Olympic Development Program (ODP).
Seattle Reign FC II will kick off its WPSL campaign at home on May 19 at Starfire Field. The full 2024 schedule will be unveiled on March 21st.
