READING UNITED A.C. JOINS THE WPSL FOR 2023 SEASON

READING, Pa. (Nov. 29, 2022) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League confirmed today that Reading United A.C. will officially join the league for the 2023 season. With the announcement, Reading United A.C. becomes the ninth WPSL team in Pennsylvania.
 

“Reading United looks forward to continuing our excellence in minor league soccer with the introduction of a women’s team to our fans and communities,” Art Auchenbach, Reading United A.C. owner, said. “We look forward to becoming a strong, competitive, member of the WPSL.”
 

Founded in 1995 as Reading Rage, it is the second longest-running minor league team and the only premier soccer team in Reading, Pa. The club got a brand refresh in 2020, ahead of its 25^th season, and the Reading United A.C. (RUAC) identity was born. RUAC currently operates a men’s side in the United Soccer League (USL) and has qualified for the U.S. Open Cup for 13 years, reached USL Playoffs 17 times, and won its conference and division a combined 11 times.
 

The club’s decision to bring a women’s team to the organization supports its goal of providing female athletes in Berks County soccer development opportunities within a locally owned entity. This addition to RUAC is consistent with its mission to foster a love for the game of soccer for all ages, abilities, and genders by enabling access to local soccer heroes, providing professional coaching, camps, and clinics, and developing environments and partnerships to further the passion for the game.
 

RUAC is also very active in the Reading community as it strives for a non-profit theme for each home game of the season to amplify its community outreach. These themes have included Hometown Heroes Night, where RUAC invited Western Berks Ambulance and Keystone Military Families to attend and show what their organization entails. The club’s most successful and biggest night surrounded cancer awareness that included a silent auction of player jerseys with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society – the jerseys were a specially designed kit specific for this game.
