DAYTON, Ohio (February 18, 2022) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today, FC Dayton has joined the league for the 2022 season. The announcement comes after the league unveiled its 2022 Roster of Teams and Alignment. For its inaugural season, FC Dayton will compete in the Western Division of the Ohio Valley Conference of the league's Central Region.
“This [Joining the WPSL] is a great way to showcase a pathway to the highest levels of the game for young, aspiring girls in the city of Dayton,” Bradley Schluter, FC Dayton co-owner and co-head coach, said. “It is fantastic for these young players to witness this, as many of FC Dayton’s players will have gone through their playing journey in the same local clubs and high schools as these young players.”
For the last five decades, FC Dayton’s parent club, CUSA Soccer Club, has represented the greater Dayton area by providing a player development program for players U3-U19. The club serves over 1,200 Dayton youth players at all levels and has constantly searched for new platforms and avenues that can provide its players with challenges and opportunities to grow and develop within the game.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide a platform for high school, collegiate and alumnae players from the Dayton area” Paddy King, FC Dayton co-owner and co-head coach, said. “We believe this will be an exciting opportunity for the young female athletes of Dayton.”
FC Dayton is equally committed to its community presence as it is with its on-field success. The club hosts community soccer camps and clinics and has established a substantial scholarship refugee program that provides financial assistance and playing opportunities to underprivileged young athletes in the Dayton area.
For its inaugural season, Paddy King and Bradley Schluter will serve as co-head coaches and Josh Hess has been named assistant head coach and head goalkeeper coach. The club will play its home matches at Alumni Stadium of Centerville High School. Ticket information will be announced soon.
“We aim to put together talented roster of young women who will serve as great role models to the future generations,” Schluter said.
