LOS ANGELES (February 7, 2022) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today, MISS KICK FC will join the league for the 2022 season. With the announcement, MISS KICK FC has been aligned into the So Cal Conference and will compete in its Coastal Division among fellow Los Angeles-area members – Elite Development Academy, FC Golden State, Invictus Athletic Club Feminae, and LA Surf Soccer Club.
“We are so thrilled to be launching MISS KICK FC in the WPSL,” Grace Vella, MISS KICK FC president, said. “Women’s soccer in America has always been something that has inspired me [and] for the Miss Kick brand to be part of that and have a presence in the largest women’s soccer league in the world is an amazing achievement for us.”
MISS KICK FC is a newly formed team under the brand umbrella of MISS KICK – a football brand Vella founded, and serves as CEO, in England after her playing career with Liverpool and Manchester City. MISS KICK is headquartered in Manchester, England but its WPSL team will be based in Southern California.
For its inaugural WPSL season, MISS KICK FC has named Scott Juniper as its head coach. Juniper is the current head women’s soccer coach for the University of California, Irvine and under his leadership, the Anteaters have won four Big West regular-season titles, one Big West tournament title and have made three NCAA tournament appearances.
“I am thrilled to be working alongside Scott, the MISS KICK staff, and the WPSL to provide talented soccer players in the California region the opportunity to continue their development this summer,” Vella said. “We can’t wait to bring our brand and what we stand for to the U.S. and provide our community with insight into what it’s like to play soccer at a competitive level in America.”
MISS KICK is on a mission to be the world’s number one football brand for her and to kick out all physical, social and psychological barriers in the sport. A percentage of all revenue from the brand is donated to the MISS KICK Foundation – a charity Vella started to fuel the organization’s community pursuit.
The MISS KICK badge denotes the brand’s key colours of yellow and black and the strapline GAME.CHANGE.HER. It also features a hidden bee in the middle of the badge - this is in reference to the brand colours and to Manchester, the home of the Miss Kick brand as the bee is symbolic to the city.
