SAN ANTONIO (December 21, 2021) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today, The Corinthians FC of San Antonio will join the league for the 2022 season. With the announcement, the Corinthians join DKSC Badtop (Dallas) as the league’s second expansion team out of Texas for the upcoming season.
“The WPSL platform aligns with our club’s structure and ambitions. Our club is very player-centric, so for us, joining the league was an easy decision,” Joe Shafer, Corinthians FC of San Antonio director of operations, said. “We are thankful to the WPSL for giving us the opportunity to showcase our club on a national platform.”
Founded in 2009, the Corinthians have been dedicated to developing homegrown talent and showcasing the best players in the San Antonio area. The club has seen two alumnae sign professional contracts in Liga MX Femenil, the highest division of women’s soccer in Mexico – Ana Campa (Club Pumas Femenil) and Juliana Pacheco (Club Puebla FC Femenil). Pacheco was also selected to the Puerto Rican Women’s National Team.
Apart from providing a pathway for advancement opportunities for their players, the Corinthians have also seen success of their own on the field. In 2019, the club claimed the United Premier Soccer League’s (UPSL) Central Conference Champions title while finishing first in league play for the spring season. In 2021, the club earned equal success becoming conference champions of the National Soccer League’s (NSL) Houston Conference for the spring season and for the UPSL’s West Texas Conference during the summer season.
The Corinthians are equally committed to its community presence as it is with its on-the-field success. The club hosts toy and food drives during the holidays, community soccer camps and clinics, and has established a scholarship program within its organization.
For its inaugural WPSL season, The Corinthians FC of San Antonio will play its home matches at the Warrior Stadium of Cornerstone Christian Schools in San Antonio. Ticket information will be announced soon.
More information about the club can be found on their social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
