SOUTH REGION RANKINGS - WEEK 8

Things are tight in the South Region with the top two spots locked up with the regular season Atlantic Conference division winners Arlington Soccer and Charlotte Eagles, and the Southeast Conference winners, 865 Alliance, moving into the number three spot. Strong weeks from Jacksonville Armada FC in the Sunshine Conference and Port City FC from the Carolinas Division helped both clubs climb back into the Week 8 Top 10.

1. ARLINGTON SOCCER (7-1-0)

Atlantic Conference — The District Division

Week 7 Rank: 1


Arlington Soccer holds onto its No. 1 spot for a fourth straight week, finishing off its season with a resounding 7-1 home win over the Washington Dutch Lions FC.


The win earned the expansion side The District title, finishing three points clear of second place, McLean Soccer. 


Kate Hawley (University of Maryland) led all Arlington goal-scorers with four on the season


 

2. CHARLOTTE EAGLES (7-1-0)

Atlantic Conference — Carolinas Division

Week 7 Rank: 2


Holding onto the No. 2 spot for a second straight week, the defending WPSL champs clinched the Carolinas Division title by three points over Port City FC thanks to two Week 8 wins in a home-and-away series with Trinity Fire. 


Fifteen players have scored goals for the Eagles this season, which led the Carolinas Division in goals scored with 23.


Up Next — The Charlotte Eagles host The District Division representative, McLean Soccer (6-1-1), on Saturday, July 6 for a berth into the South Region Playoffs.


 

3. 865 ALLIANCE (6-2-0)

Southeast Conference

Week 7 Rank: 4


Two big wins in Week 8 saw 865 Alliance score 10 unanswered goals in its final games of the regular season. Winners of the Southeast Conference by a single point, 865 Alliance trades places with the conference third place finisher, UFA Gunners. 


Alivia Stott (academy) led the conference in scoring with nine goals and was second in assists with four. 



 

4. UFA GUNNERS (5-2-0)

Southeast Conference

Week 7 Rank: 5


UFA Gunners moved up a spot after ending its season with a tough 1-0 home loss to No. 6 DECATUR FC. The Gunners finished its first WPSL season third in the Southeast Conference, three points behind champions No. 3 865 Alliance. 


Jordynn Dudley (Florida State University) led the club with five goals on the season. 


 

5. JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC (5-2-1)

Sunshine Conference

Week 7 Rank: Unranked 


An early Week 8 win over Fusion FC helped push the Armada back into the Top 10 after a four-week absence. 


Jacksonville finished a respectable fifth in its debut WPSL season, four points out of first place. 


Paige McSwigan (University of North Florida) led the club with four goals on the season, followed by Olivia Jarrell (post-collegiate) and Logan Gonzales (Jacksonville University), each with three. 

 

6. DECATUR FC (5-1-1)

Southeast Conference

Week 7 Rank: 6


The hugely popular expansion side came up one point short in its Southeast Conference title run, even after closing out the season with a 1-0 road win over No. 4 UFA Gunners. Aniyah Collier (University of Virginia) scored her first goal of the season in the win. 


Becky Contreras (Auburn University) tallied a club-high four goals on the season. 

 

7. PORT CITY FC (6-0-2)

Atlantic Conference — Carolinas Division

Week 7 Rank: Unranked


Port City FC returns to the South Region Top 10 after a week’s absence, finishing off the season with a pair of wins: 4-2 at Women’s Football Club of Charlotte and 3-1 versus Neuse River Futbol Alliance. 


The expansion side finished an impressive second in the Carolinas Division, three points off the lead. 


Corine Gregory (Brown University) led the division in scoring with five goals on the season, followed by Ellie Farrell (Virginia Tech University) with four, and Jordan Faveri (post-collegiate) with three goals on the season. 


 

8. AUSTIN RISE FC (6-2-1)

Lone Star Conference

Week 7 Rank: 9


Wins over San Antonio Runners and Futbolera Select in Week 8 helped push Austin up one spot in the South Region Top 10 and secure its first Lone Star Conference title with a game to play. 


Hailey Sapinoro (University of South Carolina – Upstate) leads the club with four goals on the season. 


As Lone Star Conference champions, Austin hosts the South Region Playoffs July 13 and 14.

9. McLEAN SOCCER (6-1-1)

Atlantic Conference — The District Division

Week 7 Rank: 10


Week 8 wins over Washington Dutch Lions and Alexandria Reds bumped McLean up one place in rankings and secured the expansion side second place in the final division standings, three points behind first place Arlington Soccer. 


Ava Nucci (academy) finished the season with nine goals to lead the conference, followed by Gabriella Terrell (academy), Evelyn Javers (academy), and Kira Waller (academy) with four goals each. 


Up Next — McLean Soccer will represent The District Division in the Atlantic Conference Championship match Saturday, July 6 in Charlotte, N.C. versus Carolinas Division champion, Charlotte Eagles (7-0-1) for a berth into the South Region Playoffs.


 

10. NASHVILLE RHYTHM F.C. (5-1-2)

Southeast Conference

Week 7 Rank: 5


A 2-0 road loss to No. 6 DECATUR FC knocked Nashville down five spots in the rankings. Nashville finished the regular season in fourth place, four points out of first. 


Angeline Kieh (post-collegiate) led the club with eight goals on the season, followed by Maddie Padelski (University of Alabama) with five.
