Published Feb 24, 2021

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The Women’s Premier Soccer League welcomes Atomic City FC, based out of Las Vegas, as its newest member for the 2021 season.

Atomic City FC was cofounded by a group of inspired, passionate soccer coaches and leaders of their soccer community to provide a platform and avenue for top female soccer players to excel in the women’s game in the Las Vegas valley and surrounding areas. The goal for this club is to inspire the local female talent with the highest level of professional training and playing environment, as well as unite them together both on and off the field to bring the community together.

We are honored to be a new franchise of this top-notch women’s league,” Pedram Mahinpey, Atomic City FC General Manager said. “The platform the WPSL has provided for women to pursue their dreams of playing at the next level professionally one day is second to none.

Nelson Medina, who also serves as president and executive director, will be the head coach for their inaugural season. Medina has over 30 years of coaching experience with youth soccer and 19 years as a club director/supervisor, including with the former WPSL team – Arkansas Comets in 2012. Medina’s players have played at the collegiate level as well as signed professionally to play in top leagues, in both the men’s and women’s game, in Scotland, Germany, Portugal, and the United States. A former player himself, Medina has played professionally and in the 1987 FIFA U17 World Cup in Canada with the United States Youth National Team.

We are thrilled to be joining such a strong, high-level league for women’s soccer in the WPSL and what they’ve accomplished over the last twenty-plus years is remarkable,” Medina said. “Our players are buzzing with excitement for the opportunity to play in the league that has paved the way for so many fantastic female players.”

Mahinpey will also serve as assistant head coach and Romi Gomez as goalkeeper coach. Mahinpey has 23 years of coaching experience in competitive soccer specifically at the club level serving as director and technical pro staff coach. Mahinpey also has coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. Gomez comes to Atomic City FC with 15 years experience as a goalkeeper coach and has coached for the Las Vegas Lights – a member of the USL Championship.

We are looking forward to competing against the extremely talented teams in this league,” Mahinpey said.

Atomic City FC anticipates playing their home matches at Peter Johann Soccer Field on the campus of

the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Tickets will be available for both adults and children and can be purchased online after the launch of their new website on March 1, 2021.
